How to Import Brazilian Chicken Paws into the UK
Post-Brexit, the UK runs its own import controls for animal products. Bringing Brazilian frozen chicken paws into Great Britain means a GB-listed plant, an export health certificate, and pre-notification through IPAFFS before the reefer even arrives.
What the UK requires
The exporting plant must be approved and listed for GB imports, each shipment travels with an export health certificate, and the importer must submit a pre-notification through IPAFFS ahead of arrival, with checks carried out at a Border Control Post. See the SIF, GACC & halal guide for how the Brazilian SIF certification underlies the export health certificate.
IPAFFS, Border Control Posts and clearance
IPAFFS pre-notification gives UK authorities visibility of the consignment before it lands, and the shipment is then subject to documentary, identity and, where applicable, physical checks at a Border Control Post near the discharge port. Getting the export health certificate and pre-notification right ahead of shipping is what keeps the container moving instead of sitting in cold storage awaiting clearance. The general step-by-step for the Brazil side of the process is in our how to import chicken paws from Brazil guide.
Ports and who is buying
Reefer cargo typically discharges at Felixstowe, London Gateway or Southampton. Buyers are mostly frozen-food traders and the wider food and catering industry, who then distribute onward across the UK — the import is typically quoted CIF in reefer containers at −18 °C, with payment by L/C or terms agreed between the parties.
